Wedding & Groomsmen Suits — Johannesburg Tailor

Sicily & Savile builds bespoke wedding suits for grooms, co-ordinated groomsmen packages, and matching pieces for fathers of the bride and groom — all hand-crafted in our Parkhurst atelier. A wedding suit shouldn’t be something you wear once and store. We build yours to fit, drape and age with you for decades.

The Wedding Suit Service

Every wedding commission is treated as a project, not a transaction. We meet with the groom, understand the venue, the season, the bride’s dress, the wedding-party dress code. Then we build a cohesive suiting plan — fabric, cut, button stance, lining, accessory choices — so the entire wedding party reads as one designed image.

What We Build

  • Groom’s bespoke suit — typically a three-piece, full canvas construction, finer cloth than a daily-wear suit, often with personalised details like an embroidered initial in the lining.
  • Groomsmen suits — matching, semi-matching or complementary to the groom; co-ordinated cloth and styling; bulk pricing.
  • Father of the bride / groom — co-ordinated but distinct.
  • Best man — often a subtle variant (different lining, different lapel) so the role reads visually.
  • Suit + shirt + tie packages — accessory co-ordination included.

Timeline — Book at Least 3 Months Out

A wedding-party bespoke commission needs:

  • Week 1: Master consultation (groom + parents or bride if desired)
  • Weeks 2–3: Cloth ordered; groomsmen consultations and measurements
  • Weeks 3–6: Pattern drafting; first cuts; baste fittings
  • Weeks 6–10: Forward fittings; finishing
  • Week 10–12: Final fittings; delivery in garment bags ready for the day

We can compress this to 8 weeks at short notice, but more time means more attention and zero panic. Book early.

Cloth Suggestions for SA Weddings

  • Summer (Oct–Mar): Lightweight wool, wool/silk blends, fresco, or linen for outdoor venues.
  • Winter (May–Aug): Mid-weight worsted, flannel, or wool/cashmere for warmth and drape.
  • Highveld evening venues: Be ready for chilly evenings — we recommend an unstructured overcoat option for outdoor receptions.

Pricing

Wedding commissions are priced per garment, with group discounts for groomsmen packages of three or more. A bespoke groom’s three-piece typically falls in the upper-mid range of our pricing; groomsmen two-piece suits come in lower with matching cloth. Detailed quotes are provided after the initial consultation.

Real-World Notes from Grooms

  • The bride almost always wants to be involved in cloth selection — bring her if she’s interested.
  • Account for weight fluctuations in the last 6 weeks; we leave generous inlays for last-minute adjustments.
  • Plan one final fitting 10 days before the wedding, not the night before.
  • We can co-ordinate with the bride’s dressmaker on shade matching if needed.
