Sicily & Savile makes bespoke shirts at our Parkhurst atelier, sized to your exact measurements and built in Egyptian cotton, linen, fine poplin or oxford cloth. A bespoke shirt is the most-worn garment in any tailored wardrobe — and the fastest way to feel the difference between mass production and craft.
Why Bespoke Shirts Matter
Off-the-peg shirts compromise. The neck might fit but the chest is loose; the sleeves are right but the cuffs gape; the body tapers awkwardly. A bespoke shirt is drafted from a paper pattern unique to you — neck, chest, waist, hip, shoulder slope, arm length and cuff diameter all measured separately. The result is a shirt that disappears: you stop noticing fit and just wear it.
What You Choose
- Cloth — Egyptian cotton (the daily standard), linen (summer), poplin (smooth finish, business standard), oxford (casual to smart-casual), or twill (winter weight).
- Collar — spread, semi-spread, cutaway, button-down, club, wing (formal). Collar height and stiffness are personalised.
- Cuffs — single (button), double (cufflink), convertible, mitered, French. Cuff length is matched to your specific wrist.
- Front — placket, French (concealed), tuxedo bib.
- Back — plain, box-pleat, side darts. Darts give a closer fit at the waist.
- Pockets — none, one, two; with or without flap.
- Buttons — mother-of-pearl (standard), bone, horn, or contrast.
- Monogramming — initials, name, or motif on the cuff or chest.
The Bespoke Shirt Process
- Consultation (30 minutes) — cloth selection and detail choices.
- Measurement — fifteen measurements, posture and stance.
- Sample shirt — for first-time clients we make a trial shirt and adjust the pattern based on how it actually fits you in motion.
- Production — your finalised pattern produces shirts on order. Subsequent orders skip the sample stage.
- Delivery — typically 2–4 weeks for the first shirt; 1–2 weeks for repeat orders.
Pricing
A bespoke shirt at Sicily & Savile starts in the mid-range, with finer Egyptian cottons and detailed options rising the price. Bulk discounts apply for orders of three or more shirts. Once your pattern is filed, future shirts are quoted at a slightly lower price per garment.
Wardrobe Recommendations
- Foundation: 5–7 daily shirts in white, light blue and pale variations of either.
- Variety: 2–3 textured cloths (chambray, oxford, twill) for less formal days.
- Formal: 1–2 evening / tuxedo shirts if required.
- Summer: 2–3 linen or lightweight cotton shirts for the Johannesburg summer.
Care
Wash at 30°C or hand-wash, iron while still slightly damp, hang on a wide-shoulder hanger to dry. Our shirts are pre-shrunk during construction so initial wash shrinkage is minimal.
